East Azerbaijan, located in the northwestern corner of Iran, is one of the most important, populous and prosperous provinces of Iran. This province shares a common border with Republics of Azerbaijan, Nakhchivan, and Armenia and due to its location on the Silk Road and having a special geographical location, is known as the crossroads of Iran and Europe and the gateway to the east.

East Azerbaijan is one of the important industrial poles of the country and by encompassing many industries, has contributed to the prosperity of industries and development of the region.
There are more than 5,000 active industrial units in the province, the main of which include food, pharmaceutical and health industries, textile and leather industries, chemical and cellulose industries; non-metallic mineral industries; machinery, equipment and parts manufacturing heavy industries, automotive, driving force and casting industries, and oil, steel and, petrochemical upstream industries.

East Azerbaijan province is one of the richest regions of the country in terms of various mineral resources with more than 8 billion tons of identified mineral reserves. Located in the north of the province, Sungun copper deposit is one of the largest copper indexes in Iran and the world. It is worth noting that there are also other unique deposits of nepheline syenite, kaolin, perlite, diatomite, etc

With 414 thousand hectares of irrigated, and 807 thousand hectares of rainfed lands, this province is among top provinces in agricultural and livestock production. Major products of the province are grapes, apricots, apples, potatoes, walnuts, almonds, honey, red meat, etc.

East Azerbaijan province is also one of the tourism destinations due to its natural, historical and environmental attractions. This province has 1800 national-inscribed and two world heritage sites (1- Tabriz Historic Bazaar Complex, the largest brick structure in the world with an area of 27 hectares and 2- Armenian Monastic Ensembles), 9 handicrafts with UNESCO Seal of Excellence, 35 top works, and 80 active crafts. Global brand in Harris handmade carpets, Tabriz city as the world city of handmade carpets, and as the city of the Islamic world tourism in 2018 are among the important world titles of this province.
Capabilities of the Transportation Sector
The province has extensive passenger and freight rail transportation links with neighboring countries such as Turkey, Armenia, and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
East Azerbaijan is one of the largest imports and exports sites in the country. In order to accomplish the developmental goals and to facilitate investment for investors, this province has been a pioneer in the design and implementation of a single window system of investment in the country.
